Where do you back up your data?

Postby Ellen C. Braun » Tue Nov 01, 2005 12:26 pm

Hi,

We've all heard the nightmare scenarios of computers crashing...

Where do you back up your data?

I do not have a CD writer... I'm looking for a reasonably-priced off-site place to back up certain projects.

Thanks!

Here's my little spill on :

Depositit will do this all for you! Just download a small piece of software from the website & install it on your computer, then select the files you want to backup and every day at the scheduled time your files will be safely backed up. That's it!

No more time spent backing up manually or worrying because you haven't done it - it's done automatically for you every day and costs less than a cup of coffee!

If you are backing up it makes sense to change to Depositit for a more efficient & secure solution, and if you're not backing up it makes complete sense to install it immediately!

Hope that helps ;)

Hi Ellen,

Another possible solution is to buy a thumb drive (aka flash drive). It's a small device that plugs into one of your usb slots and acts as another hard drive. It fits in your pocket and can from 128 megabytes to a gigabyte or more, depending on the model you buy.

You can buy one of the smaller ones for about $25, even less on sale.

Since I currently don't have a working CD burner (a problem to be fixed in the next 2 months) we keep all our programs and files seperated by having two hard drives, one slaved off the other. One hard drive has programs on it, and one hard drive has files on it. So far I like this set up and I think even when I get my new computer at the end of this year I'm going to keep it set up this way...and make a third back up by burning everything onto cd's!
