Switch to Outlook Express

Postby WAHumor » Wed Oct 06, 2004 12:28 pm

Currently, my site email goes to a CPanel webmail provider I'm becoming less than happy with.

When I reinstalled my cable modem (Yaaaaaay!), the technician set the OE address to the cable server.

How would I switch the OE address to handle my site email address?

Most website hosts will have instructions somewhere on how to set up your email client for their email. I don't use OE, so I can't be too specific, but you plug the info from your host into the email manager.

Some hosts are even kind enough to provide screen shots, but they always seem to have the wrong version for me.

Dan,

I don't use OE but I have it on my PC so I looked up the help:

Open OE
Click on "Tools"
Click On "Account"
Click on "Mail"
Click on "Add"
Click on "Mail"
Add YOUR Name - Dan?? heh heh
Click "Next"
Add Email Address - whatever@yourdomain.com (net, org, etc)
Click "Next"

Email Server Names = POP3

Incoming Mail (POP3) = get from your hosting provider (usually something like, "mail.yourdomain.com" or just "yourdomain.com")

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) = usually most use their ISP's SMTP address (which, in your case would be your cable services provders). Something like "mail.cox.net", as an example. Check with your ISP for sure.

Click "Next"

Account Name: Usually with CPanel they use up to the first 8 characters of your domain name

Password = what your web host provided you or what you changed it to.

Click "Next"

Click "Finished"

So ... When you open you OE just do whatever you do to "Check Mail" and it should download your mail from your server.

Hope I got this right!!!

Some cable providers only let you use their outgoing mail server in OE. You can use the incoming server for any account, but the outgoing may have to be set with to your ISP's outgoing server.
