Thunderbird problem

I have been using Thunderbird about a year now because one day Outlook just didn't want to open on my computer anymore. Everything has been fine until the last week. Thunderbird keeps acting weird. It freezes and when I close it, I have to restart to open it again. I have tried uninstalling it, then reinstalling but it is not doing a fresh re-install because when I open the program, my emails and contacts are still there.

Not sure what to do.

I don't know much about Thunderbird and you have probably already thought of this, but is it possible there is a virus or worm causing this problem?

Have you done a virus scan recently?

I have McAfee on my computer. Last scan was yesterday.

Try compacting your folders. It's a maintenance task that should be done regularly. (File/Compact Folders) And don't open any folders during the process.

If you are on Windows, your profile is located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\ . Look for and rename the Thunderbird folder. Substitute your main drive letter for 'C' and your login name for 'username'.

Don't delete the Thunderbird folder - rename it, at least for now. It contains all your mail, archived and otherwise.
