Business Liscense

Just curious to "what kind of business lisence one would need, and in turn if its home based does that raise your porperty taxes and make your home "commercial" property....

any body have any good insight on this?

Your need for a home business license will depend on your location, that's why it's hard to give a straight answer.

I wouldn't expect it to increase your property taxes or make it "commercial", however. There may be a lot of rules on what kind of business you can do from your home, though. Some areas don't allow anything that increases the traffic in your neighborhood, some don't allow you to have signs outside, etc.

Stephanie is right - and sorry for the short answer. I was on my way out to an appt, had oral surgery that day (ack!). Anyway, I run a completely internet-based business out of my home office... and am not required to hold a license or anything along those lines. I file as sole proprietor and run my biz as a DBA.

This was the advice given to me by my CPA several years ago (5 or 6?) when I shut down my office downtown to work from my home office full time.
