contact the big names

Few months ago I was on Lynn teleseminar when she said something profound:

In order to contact the big names in your industry your first bet is to get on their RADAR. Leave comments to their sites, contribute, whatever...

Then I got this advice from Rich Schefren: Go and offer them something. So I devised a system I am going to test:

First get on their radar, then offer them value. My hypotesis is that I'm gonna form a bond with them without even having to try! 100% naturally.

I wanted to ask you, do you have any tips that work for you to contact the "big names" in any industry?

getting on their radar helps of course - buying their products helps even more and meeting them at a live event is even better.

That is where even Twitter and Friendfeed or going to their live Ustream TV shows comes in handy.
You can comment & reply to them. Well, that is if you have something intelligent to say. I see many that try to make offers to these people while they are in the middle of shows or just want to always say - 'great post'. Add to what they do and they will notice.

I actually twittered a post I wrote in my blog to a big name, he liked it and recommended it on his next tweet, from just that I got 300 hits and about 50 new followers on twitter!!, the last time I was followed by this many people was when I entered a new Apple store opening :lol:

Twitter seems to be great for making those connections fast and easy. Having to squeeze your thought into 140 characters really makes you think things through!

This is why I started using my real name everywhere last year. I had a pen name and various screen names. Just like in real marketing, the more times a person is exposed to your name the more likely they are to listen to what you have to say, or at least add an extra 5 seconds to their attention span. Especially if they see it in different places (ie: twitter, facebook, blog).

I haven't tweeted or written to too many big internet marketers, but if they were to see your name enough it would most def. help if you needed to get their attention in the future (assuming you don't have an annoying personality).

I've emailed/tweeted Ed Dale a number of times since 2007. Its cool because he answers more often than not. He's my favorite marketer and I drank the koolaide. It would be awesome to work with him one day, and i suppose that's one of the reasons I contact him every so often.

yes, twitter is getting good for sharing with the "big dogs" I have just gotten active recently in the following of some of the big names.
I would love to get doing something with Mike Filsaime on day. I just joined his twitter groupies and hope in the future I can think of a way to get known.

To help get on the "big name" radar...you have to hang out where they do.

Right now, the social networks are a good way to do just that.

Twitter, Facebook, and Digg have helped me gain some valuable partnerships personally.
