An embarrassing pic of my desk

Postby Ellen C. Braun » Tue Jun 17, 2008 1:32 pm

My desk is a cross between a war zone in Iraq and Ground Zero

I MUST clean up this desk!

If I could find my digital camera (it's somewhere under the piles) I'd post a picture of this chaos!

What does your desk look like?

How do you keep it clean?

Every time I clean it; a few days later the chaotic piles come back like uninvited guests!

I am going to head up the "Desk Search Party" task force....

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who cannot survive a trip to their desk...MUST bring a "Desk Buddy" with them to call the DSP immediately.

The phone number is:

1-800-FULL-DESK

Ok, I cleaned off a lot of it today! And, on Lynn's suggestion I'm going to do my best to switch from paper to whiteboards... also a corkboard for bills, mail, etc- but nothing horizontal on my desk anymore!

That has helped me TONS, Ellen. I have two large whiteboards, one corkboard, and one dry-erase wall calendar. All hang within plain view from my computer chair. Keeps me focused, on task... and the desk clean!

I am going to set all this up!

Is the calendar pre-printed on the whiteboard?

Where do you keep your to-do list and what's the best way to handle that?

Thanks:)

Yes, its a dry-erase calendar. I got mine from Wal-Mart for less than $10 even. My master task list is on paper, but often gets buried - so I keep my daily/current task list (& priorities) on the main whiteboard.

Personally, I can't work at all if my desk is messy. I get far too distracted if it gets like that.

I actually like using the metal mesh file holders they can be easily attached with a couple small nails above the desk to the wall, good place to keep files that you use daily without them cluttering up the desk.

I am moving soon so office is packed, but when I settle back in at the new place I will take a pic of my set up. The white boards, wipe on wipe off calendar that Lynn has is a great help in keeping information organized.

Just think space and have fun building your workspace.
