Email Account Organization

Postby wheatstraw » Wed Mar 19, 2008 1:40 pm

One thing I'm finding is that it's sometimes difficult to keep email organized. I have around 5 different inboxes at the moment that I use for various purposes, and while all of them forward to a gmail account sometimes it's difficult to keep track of what is going where. Also, my hosted accounts will occasionally fill up, necessitating a massive purge party.

My advanced 1-800 provider, gotvmail, addressed this in their last newsletter:

They suggest a two-prong approach whereby you delete items more diligently and also use cross-account applications like Fuser (which I admit I have not yet checked out).

Anybody else found a decent solution for this?

I down load everything to Incredimail then have folders for each address, some have subfolders for like affilate program updates/newsletters go straight in there, inside the folder for that email address. Or projects go in to their own folder. That way I just glance and see what is what and they are off the server so it doesnt fill up.

The solution is to unsubscribe from as many of them as you can afford, and start subscribing to RSS readers.

Pretty simply way to keep your inboxes clean and only get deluged with information, not just promotions.

Get a Bloglines RSS reader, start subscribing to some quality content blogs, stop reading other people's promotions, errr, I mean emails and your days and night will be more productive.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi there,

I love Gmail.Google provides hosted solutions for small businesses and organizations so you can have all your domain emails taken care of by Gmail. You just need to change your MX records and you get their spam filtering and ease of use.

I used to get so overwhelmed by the amount of spam and just having to log into so many different accounts. Now, I just use a catch all with Gmail and it's worked very well for me so far.

And it's free too. Here's the link to the page

I think you'll love their service. I know I am a big fan!

Thunderbird is free and I love love love it. I have filters set up for every address etc and I hit that send and receive button and wham it filters all of them to the folders that I have designated per the rules I set up.

In Thunderbird you can go to tools and then to message filters to set up your filters there. Click the new button and fill in the blanks it is that easy.

It has allowed me to have emails like server activity go to one folder, sales to another folder, etc and I schedule my day working to include checking certain folders at certain times.

There is a neat calendar plugin you can get for Thunderbird well along with great junk filters etc. For a free email client Thunderbird gets 5 stars from me.

the only thing I did not like about it was how hard it was to get it to import of all my OE addresses, and emails.

so I finally gave up and went back to OE.
