Once upon a time, I used a desktop (and still have it...just not set up LOL). Now, I strictly use my laptop for everything. Love that it's portable and has wireless internet access. :)

Laptop!! I can take it anywhere - on the go or any room in the house or even the back patio - love that.

And I don't let anyone use it. It's my money making machine ;)

The notebook can't be beat!

It's actually my main PC as I like to get around a bit. BUT ... I do have a reasonably up-to-date desktop that I can download stuff to. I also do some daytrading in the mornings and when I'm home, I use the desktop.

This is my second notebook. I try to get a new one every two years and my desktop every three years.

But I love my notebook!

Bonnie,

The only downside to a notebook might be that they're more expensive than desktops and you're limited as to how far you can upgrade except for memory (RAM). With desktops, it's easier to swap out parts AND alot less expensive. With notebooks it's harder to do replacement parts yourself (if you're so inclined).

But the notebook offers portability which is it's BIGGEST selling point.

FWIW ...

Thanks, Rick! I'll probably be getting a laptop within a year or so. My desktop is 3 years old and is still working like a charm (so far).

Definitely a laptop. They are so portable you can take them anywhere. I am planning to invest in another laptop to share my workload between two laptops.

Both!

I used to only have a desktop. I now have a laptop as well. Most of my development stuff is now on the laptop since it is a good top-end laptop. I even have an Apace server running on it. That way wherever I am, I have everything I need. I can also use it anywhere in the house and many other places as well (Borders, many cafes, libraries, etc.).

But I still use my desktop but differently now. It's a lower end unit and is now used for non-critical stuff, manages downloads, repository for stuff that I don't often use.

I'm set up to remote desktop into my desktop so I can still get to anything I need remotely. I also have mapped some of my more regularly used desktop directories to my laptop.

I've got the best of both worlds without bogging down my main machine (the laptop) with less relevant things.

I prefer both. While I use my notebook while I'm watching a T.V. show or something similar, I prefer using my trusty Desktop for doing things that require a larger screen, printing, things such as that. So, for me, each has its place and time.

I just posted about this on my blog earlier this week. I tend to use my desktop more, even though the laptop can be convenient. My reasons? My desktop has dual 19″ widescreen monitors, which is laid out very nicely for multi-tasking. Everything is plugged in, and all accessories are accessible - things are exactly where I need them.

But I am looking into Remote Access solutions, which will make me fall back in love with my laptop again I am sure ;)

Laptop or Portable

Lynn:

Yes, I agree. I do like the big screen for many things. Looking at a Laptop is in some ways like going back to a 19" TV after having a large screen.

Laptop has become my best friend since the birth of my second son 6 months ago. I rarely find the time to go downstairs to my desktop anymore.
