I agree on Adsense - great earner.

Again, it depends on your target market... but here are a few more that convert very well for me:

(currently converting at 9.18%)
This program pays you $7/lead to give away a free (ebay) auction course & free toolkit. OR, you can set it up to earn a high commission (several hundred) on the sale (if people who take the free course decide to buy their backend offer).

One thing to note about Adsense (in regards to how profitable it may or may not be) -

The ads that are shown through Adsense are the ads that are placed by advertisers through Google Adwords. How much a website owner gets paid for every Adsense click-through is directly related to the amount that the advertiser is paying per click for that particular ad.

If your website is in a very popular niche, then there will be a lot of advertisers on that topic and plenty of ads to display on your site. The more popular the topic, the more competitive the bidding to place ads. And of course the more they are paying per click (to compete with other advertisers)... the more you will be paid as the publisher that places those same ads on your web pages (using Adsense).

There are other factors for how much you can earn - such as how relevant your page content is to the ad that was clicked on, etc - but the general rule of thumb is the more competitive the topic, the higher the payout.

On the flip side, if it is a very odd or unique topic with very little or no competition... you will have fewer ads, and lower paying ads, showing through Adsense.

Adsense works out very nice on my sites. As for affiliate programs I will let one of my best converting programs out of the bag: www.AllSat.com

Satellite TV is a billion dollar a year business. Their DISH Network site converts well for me and subaffiliates continue to roll in. AllSat is also a Top Affiliate Trusted Partner.

However, do to the popularity of satellite TV you have to be very creative in your marketing/advertising campaigns.
