Hi,

Please give me some information about page rank and alexa rank. What is the difference between in these?

PageRank is from Google, Alexa Rank is from Alexa.

PageRank is based on Google's super secret algorithms.....

Alexa Rank is based more on traffic and page views.

That's about the sum of my knowledge on the two. While most of us don't find either one accurate in terms of measuring a site's quality, if your site model is based on having advertisers they do like to see those numbers be good.

Not very accurate. Let me reword it - Alexa Rank is based on a certain amount of traffic a website receives: Alexa Toolbar users traffic. Which means that if your website doesn't have visitors using Alexa Toolbar, then your website doesn't exist. The reality is different though. That's why Alexa rank is not very useful.

Actually, PageRank is a link-based measure of authority. It's not "the" algorithm. Essentially, it is the probability of a random web surfer finding a given page on the web, solely by following links (and they set a 10-15% decay factor, which would be like having a 10-15% chance that he'll request a fresh page to restart on).

So it's basically like taking a page, viewing the pages that link to it, the pages that link to those, etc., etc. Through iterations (or "cycles" of the PageRank algorithm being performed) each page in Google's index will have its own probability value, so then you now have your link-based measure of authority.

While PageRank is not a primary ranking force in Google, it is responsible for the *ability* to rank. When a search query is created, Google crawls through their index by PageRank until they hit 1,000 "relevant" results, and then those results are ordered by their ranking algorithms/filters, duplicates are removed, etc.

But as you can see, depending on the competition, PageRank has everything to do with whether or not you show up for a given search query.
