Ranking in Other Countries

Postby upshurcreative » Thu Mar 26, 2009 11:09 am

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right category.

If I obtain a top ranking on a keyword in Google.com, will that site and ranking show up on Google.jp.

I wanted to know because I'm working on a site for a customer who wants the site I'm designer to show up under the same keywords in Japan.

Thanks in advance

Rankings are not necessarily equal among the various Google domains. So it's possible for a site to rank #1 in Google.com and not in Google.jp.

tknoppe, got that right.

absolutely how it works, your site is more than 60% likely to be listed, if you have content relating to that language. But, if you dont then it's most likely it aint even listed under that language.

with their new language translator tool, if you plug it into your blog or website it provides 20+ major languages an automatic translation, listing all your posts and or pages in all those languages. Very nice to do if you want that little extra foreign traffic. (mutli-language)

It will not necessarily show up since google has different indexing per country.

Others register thier site under diffrent country domain.. like if they want to rank in ireland, they register their domain in site.ie or in UK site.co.uk

Ranking is different for different domains. Google always try their best to find local contents. If you are from India and type term "actress", Google will rank indian actress from .IN domain.

It all depends on your keyword research, if you are targeting your keyword to US (which is Google's default search) it would likely to have the same result in Japan.

Whatever ranks you will have in the default US Google rank, it will be the same unless the surfer using Google's homepage clicks the "pages from Japan" tick box just under the type box.

Hope that helps.
