Postby prajani » Mon Mar 09, 2009 5:50 am

Do you think that building a website and then putting it on the web would get you customers and help in getting return on investment? If your answer is yes, think about it again... To make things clearer, you have a shop in a commercial area and want people to come and buy things. Well you need show your presence, tell people what business you do. You need to promote your business to keep it alive for future.

Similar thing happens, when you have an online store. You need to market your site so that among the millions of stores, it makes some space for itself. For this there are many companies offering with search optimization services. Some of the benefits of Search engine optimization are:

* You need to make directory and search engine submission. To help the visitors in finding the store, you need to put down your websites address in different directory and on popular search engines. Hence, there are chances of finding the store.

* A Search Engine Marketing knows the ways to locate your site among the top pages of websites on World Wide Web. For this they have Search engine optimization tools and tactics.

* Search engine optimization helps in bringing quality traffic to the website. By quality we here mean, genuine buyers.

* It is a cost effective way of advertising about your business. Various studies have shown that a well-optimized site helps in earning at least 5-6% more than the banner advertising.

* Easily and quickly one can change the marketing strategy, if leads are not generated within sometime. Don't worry money involved is safe. One doesn't need to invest money again; the search engine optimizer will take care of all marketing strategy and related things. He would employ various methods like organic search engine optimization, landing page optimization, social networking, from time to time, to improve the business activity.

Interesting article. I agree we need to know our target audience & market; but I do not agree that we need to submit our site to search engine and directory submissions. If you publish your site, Google will index it. The only directory I can see submitting your site to is DMOZ. I'd be vary wary of submitting to most of other directories and some appear to be nothing more than link farms.

I believe site owners should focus on writing quality link-worthy content that will naturally get backlinks from related sites, also being an active and contributing member on related sites, forums & blogs with a backlink to your site also helps.

In addition, writing for ezine articles is another way to provide quality links back to your site and set yourself up as an expert in your field.

I have to agree with Traci. Search Engine submission is not necessary at all. Even for a minimally optimized site, if it's linked to from someplace it will get found without you having to submit it.

Hi,

I believe that submission in social bookmarking sites is quite helpful for traffic and link building.

It is not best practice to bookmark your own sites with social bookmarking sites. While occasionally bookmarking your own site is OK, regularly doing so is not. Carefully read the TOS for each social bookmarking site before proceeding.

A General Comment on Backlinks, Social Bookmarking & Organic SEO

The whole idea behind building a web site, is not for you to boost your own site to the top of Google; but for you to create quality content both on your site and off your site that links back to it, that will: #1 naturally make others want to link to it and keep coming back to your site. #2 following any off-site links to your site to read more of what you've written.

Organic traffic and Organic SEO means natural: that comes from quality content: not forced traffic or links in an unnatural fashion.

Most social bookmarking sites will ban you without notice for bookmarking yourself. Stumble Upon and Digg are big hitters and they will ban you pretty fast if they catch on.

It can still be found if you keep on having fresh contents on your site and give the readers a great time reading the articles.

Also, article submission can widely spread your voice on the web on any given topic.
