How many searches constitute a viable niche?

Okay I know about using wordtracker and all of that. How many searches indicate something that's worth pursuing?

I would say that a keyword that generates 2000-3000 searches is a keeper.
You're looking for high demand, low supply and good profitability numbers, of course.
