What Came First ... The Chicken Or The Egg?

Hi Forum-Mates,

Okay, we really don't want you to answer that question, but how about answering the following questions for us?

You see, we are currently writing an article and would like to compare your answers and comments with ours to either confirm or deny what we currently believe to be the "pulse" of the general public when it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization = Designing Web Pages for high rankings for specific keywords.)


We would like your feedback, comments and answers and please be as candid as you can, thank you.

We encourage EVERYONE to please help us by answering some or all of these questions. We would be appreciative even if you only answer ONE question.

Please don't be shy, but if you are, you can still help us.

Just "log out" and simply answer the questions as "Guest" and no one will know your identity, not even Lynn. <WINK>

We truly covet your help on this, and remember that this is NOT a test and you won't be graded and there are NO wrong answers at all.

• a.) Why is SEO usually an afterthought and not taken into consideration right from the beginning of the Web Design project?

• b.) Should SEO be taken into consideration right from the beginning of the Web Design project and why or why not?

• c.) Why don't Web Designers usually inform their clients of the importance of SEO and include a quote for it in their proposals?



Section Two:

1.) What came first ... Web Page Design or SEO?

2.) Why did you (or why do you think most people) will design their Web Pages without first learning SEO?

3.) Why do you think that most tutorials and/or classes on Web Design do not include SEO?

4.) When did you (or when do you think most people) first learn about SEO?

a.) During the blueprint stage. In other words at the very beginning of the design process.

b.) During the middle of the design process.

c.) Right after the design process and right before indexing by the search engines?

d.) Right after, (i.e., within a month or two) the indexing process by the search engines, when high rankings aren't found?

e.) Way after, (i.e., 6 months or more) the indexing process by the search engines, when high rankings aren't found?

5.) Did you (or think most people) initially think that all there was to SEO was to add a few good keywords to your Meta Tags and then to sprinkle them a little here and a little there in your copy of the page and that would be enough to rank high for all those words you placed in the Meta Tags? If you (or think most people) did, where did you (or most people) learn that from?

6.) For those of you who now have a very different view of SEO than you did even a couple of months (or weeks) ago, would you be so kind as to share with us?

a.) What specific aspects of SEO recently enlightened you?

b.) What were one or more aspects of SEO that you did not know were true or not, but you know now?

c.) What one or more aspects of SEO that you did not know before made a big impact on you?

d.) What were some of the major myths or some of the major hype that you thought was true but found out it wasn't?

e.) What do you think is the major reason for all the mystery and confusion and contradictions people find when searching for SEO knowledge?

f.) What do you think can be done within the SEO industry to help people to easily and quickly know that what they are reading about SEO is true or not?

g.) If you were on the committee to put together the ULTIMATE SEO TUTORIAL, from your present level of SEO understanding, what 10 questions (or as many as you can think of) would you want to see the correct answers to?
