Poor Google ranking for webpage

Hi,

I have been doing articles submission to article directories and glad to say that most of the articles have rank pretty well in google i.e at leat one of them is in the first page of google search for the keyword phrase.

However, a similiar article using the same keyword phrase (low competitive keyword that is expected to rank well) that I have posted in my website was not even ranked in google search at all. In fact to my "horror", most of them have been thrown into the "supplemental list" in google!

Any advice on what happen and how can I avoid this for all future articles posted to my website will be greatly appreciated.
