I would beg to differ.Articles are good source to get traffic and links but definitely the best.Write a keyword-rich article that relates to what you sell, then give it away to other sites--for free,this is one of the best ways to drive a steady stream of eager customers to your site.As for inbound links well if you have the URL of your website added to your signature and the content you are posting is completely fresh and original only then will the page where your article is will get cached.I try this on a general basis,but Google knows the best.The updates conducted last year in October and this year in early January got me the inbound/backlinks ,but the last update that happened last week saw Google removing those link pages and hence there was a loss in inbound links and pagerank.

If you really want to do article marketing, just remember to always use the same URL as the source so as to avoid getting penalized for duplicate content.
